Article Pitches
The Chakkar publishes reviews, features, essays, and opinions about Indian music, literature, arts, film/TV, theatre, sports/outdoors and more. Our preference is towards narrative longform journalism, although we welcome good writing in any form, shape, and size. To submit a story idea, send a pitch and a list of your published works to thechakkar@gmail.com
Please note that while we read every pitch we receive, we are unable to respond to each one.
Creative submissions
The Chakkar is currently accepting submissions of fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, interviews, reviews, photography, or art for online publication. We are a portal obsessed with the promotion of Indian arts, and at this point are only publishing material written from India, about India, or by Indians - at home or worldwide.
Prose submissions must be under 8,000 words. Multiple submissions accepted for poetry and other media. Please format your submission with The Times New Roman font and double-spaced.
Please add your name, contact details, and social media handles with each submission.
Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please inform us if your submission has been accepted elsewhere.
All submissions must be previously unpublished. Enclose a brief third person bio and cover letter with each submission.
By submitting your work to The Chakkar, you agree to grant us exclusive rights to publish and promote your work through our website and social media. Authors may seek permission if they wish to republish their work elsewhere after first publication on The Chakkar. The Author vows that the work is theirs; that the Work will not infringe upon the personal rights of or give rise to any claim by any third party, including, without limitation, claims in defamation, privacy, copyright, or trademark; and that the Author has the authority to grant us the rights granted in this agreement. Publisher will have no obligation to publish any part of the Work, which in its opinion would infringe upon such rights of any third party.
The Chakkar does not charge a reading fee. We also don’t pay unsolicited creative contributors at this point.
Please note that while we read every pitch we receive, we are unable to respond to each one.
