India is a puzzle, a contradiction of ideas, regions, languages, and creative influences that is united under the same flag. It’s an nation where the ancient and the modern can exist on the same timeline, where bureaucracy is slow and change is fast.

A lot of good comes at the fast pace, but a lot is lost in the way. With the world tugging us in different directions, we hardly stop and appreciate what made India into a unique nation in the first place: its ability to be a sponge for culture, a petri-dish of creative genius.

Here at The Chakkar, our intention is to create a website where we could slow down and appreciate that genius. Even in a time when it seems that the competitive ‘bottom lines’ are pulling us down like daldal, there remain a breed of talented creators who are continuing to push the boundaries through art, music, literature, film, theatre and more.

We hope to be the witnesses, cheerleaders, and co-creators of this cultural renaissance. We hope to ensure that, even with the speed of progress into the future we take along the one thing that makes us most human: art.
