Join us for the latest edition of the Golchakkar series: This month, Rosalyn D'Mello and Sarita Jenamani will weigh in on the European-Indian condition. They will come in to speak about what it means to be displaced into Europe in the 21st century. That includes not only the way that they found themselves in Europe, but also the ways that the European languages influence their writing and ways of thinking. The session will be hosted as ever by world traveler, polyglot, and author Kiran Bhat.

SARITA JENAMANI is an Austria based poet of Indian origin, a literary translator, anthologist, editor of a bilingual magazine for migrant literature – Words & Worlds – a human rights activist, a feminist and general secretary of PEN International’s Austrian chapter. She has so far been published in three collections of poetry. English is the chief medium of her creative process. The other two languages she writes in are; Odia, her mother tongue and German. She uses these languages for the translation projects that she undertakes from time to time. Jenamani has translated Rose Ausländer, a leading Austrian poet, and an anthology of contemporary Austrian Poetry from German into Hindi and Odia respectively. She has received many literary fellowships in Germany and in Austria including those of the prestigious organizations of ‘Heinrich Böll Foundation’ and ‘Künstlerdorf Schöppingen’.
ROSALYN D’MELLO (she/her) is the author of A Handbook for My Lover. She writes a weekly feminist column for mid-day and a fortnightly column on contemporary art for STIR. She is an India Foundation for the Arts research grant recipient and is presently working on a book for Oxford University Press based on her visits to South Asian artists’ studios. She was on the jury for the Prudential Eye Art Awards in 2016 and was an evaluator for the Andy Warhol Foundation’s 2020 Art Writers Grant. Her freelance writing has been internationally published and anthologised. She is represented by David Godwin Associates. Having grown up in Mumbai, and having spent a decade living in Delhi, she is presently based in Tramin in Südtirol, in the Italian Alps. She is presently working on the sequel to her non-fiction memoir.
KIRAN BHAT is an Indian-American novelist, short-story writer, and educator. He is the author of We of the Forsaken World, Afora Adentro, Autobiografia, Kiran Speaks, Tirugaatha, and more. An avid world traveler, polyglot, and digital nomad, he has currently travelled to over 130 countries, lived in 18 different places, and speaks 12 languages. He currently lives in Melbourne.
