Join us for the latest edition of the Golchakkar series: a discussion on Indian poetry from the Lockdown. The COVID-19 Lockdown in 2020-21 has been one of the most traumatic and isolating passages of time in recent Indian history. We invite K.S. Subramanian, Mallika Bhaumik, and Amit Shankar Saha to discuss how poetry has guided them to respond and cope with these challenging times for the nation and the world. The session will be hosted as ever by world traveler, polyglot, and author Kiran Bhat.

K.S. SUBRAMANIAN has published two volumes of poetry titled Ragpickers and Treading on Gnarled Sand through the Writers Workshop, Kolkata. His poem “Dreams” won the cash award in Asian Age. His poems have been featured in Muse India, run by Central Institute of Indian Languages, Hyderabad, and also appeared in several magazines, anthologies and web sites run at home and abroad. His short stories have appeared in Indian Ruminations, Setu Mag, Tuck Magazine, Indian Review, Muse India, and Indian Periodicals. Subramanian is a retired senior assistant editor of The Hindu and lives in Chennai. You can find more of his work here.
MALLIKA BHAUMIK has a Master's Degree in English literature from the University of Calcutta. Her works have been featured in Mad Swirl, Cafe Dissensus, Oddball Magazine, Shot Glass Journal, Kitaab, In Parentheses, Stag Hill Journal, Harbringer Asylum, Madras Courier, The Alipore Post, The Chakkar, and more. She is the author of two poetry books: her first, Echoes, won the Reuel International award for the best debut book (2018); her second, How Not To Remember was published in 2019. She is also a nominee for the Pushcart Prize for Poetry. She lives and writes from Kolkata.
AMIT SHANKAR SAHA is a widely-published award-winning poet and short story writer. He has won the Poiesis Award for Excellence in Literature, Wordweavers Prize (both for poetry and short story), Nissim International Runner-up Prize for Poetry, and has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and the Griffin Poetry Prize. His works have been included in Best Indian Poetry 2018 anthology. His poetry collections include Balconies of Time, Fugitive Words, and Illicit Poems. He has co-edited a collection of short stories titled Dynami Zois. Saha teaches in the English Department of Seacom Skills University. He is the co-founder of Rhythm Divine Poets. KIRAN BHAT is an Indian-American novelist, short-story writer, and educator. He is the author of We of the Forsaken World, Afora Adentro, Autobiografia, Kiran Speaks, Tirugaatha, and more. An avid world traveler, polyglot, and digital nomad, he has currently travelled to over 130 countries, lived in 18 different places, and speaks 12 languages. He currently lives in Melbourne.
